Ballito Lifestyle Centre, a plant Sunbird Solar built. Monthly figures from the plant’s monthly solar summary, measured; forecast from the plant’s yield model.
  1. Generation against expected

Daily generation from the revenue meter, set against what the plant’s yield model gives for the month’s conditions.

Ask: On which days did generation fall below expected, and why?

  2. Specific yield and performance ratio

Specific yield is kWh per kWp installed, so plants of different sizes can be compared. Performance ratio, as IEC 61724-1 defines it, also allows for the sunlight the plant received.

Ask: Is the year’s yield in line with the plant’s design estimate?

  3. Availability

Shown as the generation lost to outages, in kWh, so a percentage cannot hide a costly day.

Ask: What did each outage cost?

  4. Faults raised, resolved and open

Every fault from its first alarm to the close-out, with the cause and the action taken.

Ask: Which faults are still open, and since when?

  5. Savings value

The value of generation at the site’s blended tariff, as in the client’s own reports. Labelled Estimated, because the tariff is an input, not a reading.

Ask: Which tariff was used, and is it current?

  6. Maintenance completed

Tasks planned for the month set against tasks done.

Ask: What was carried over, and why?

  7. Next month’s planned work

The work planned for the coming month, so the next report can be checked against it.

Ask: Does the plan match the faults and findings above?

Five rules every report follows

How every report on this site is produced.

  1. Metered, not estimated

Generation is read from revenue meters and monitoring platforms, then reconciled against the monthly production report issued to each client.

  2. Measured and modelled are kept apart

Every site is tagged. Where a plant has run less than a full year, output is annualised and labelled as such, never presented as an actual.

  3. Built and taken over are kept apart

Sites Sunbird Solar designed and installed are reported separately from sites taken over under O&M.

  4. Contract terms stay private

Performance guarantees and commercial terms never appear in portfolio reporting.

  5. Every figure is traceable

Each number resolves to a named site, a commissioning date and a monitoring platform.

The fund view

A fund with many centres sees every plant reported the same way, side by side, with plants Sunbird Solar built kept apart from plants taken over from other installers.
